Discover Restaurants With Live Music in North Jersey

Northern New Jersey has no shortage of places to eat, but finding a restaurant where the live entertainment actually adds to the night can be a little harder.

That’s what this guide is for.

We’re not trying to build a directory of every restaurant that occasionally hires a musician or DJ. We’d rather feature North Jersey restaurants with live music that we actually know – places where we’ve performed, venues we’ve visited, and restaurants we think are worth putting on your radar.

We know this world particularly well because we’re two singers from New Jersey who have spent years performing in restaurants, lounges and private events throughout the area.

Some of these restaurants have been part of our story for decades. Others are newer discoveries. What they have in common is that the entertainment feels like part of the experience rather than something competing with it.

That might mean dinner and live singers at a landmark restaurant like Sanzari’s. It might mean an intimate steakhouse, a neighborhood Italian restaurant, or a Thursday night at Bottagra when dinner gradually turns into a party.

Because some of the best music venues in North Jersey aren’t concert halls at all.

They’re the places where you planned to stop in for dinner, heard a song you loved, ordered another drink and stayed an extra hour.

We’ll continue adding restaurant spotlights, upcoming appearances and recommendations throughout Bergen County, Northern New Jersey and nearby Rockland County.

And because entertainment schedules change constantly, check our North Jersey live music calendar before making your plans.

If Liza & Josh happen to be performing that night, come say hello – and don’t forget to make a request.

What Makes a Great Live Music Restaurant?

The best restaurants with entertainment in NJ understand something important: live music doesn’t always need to take over the room.

Sometimes it should simply make dinner better.

There are nights when you want a concert. And there are other nights when you want to enjoy dinner, open a bottle of wine, talk with friends and hear great music at the same time.

Many of our favorite restaurant performances fall into that second category.

Our approach to live music in North Jersey has always been about reading the room. Early in the evening, that might mean Sinatra, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Carole King or James Taylor. As the night develops, the music might move toward Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Bruno Mars, Dua Lipa – or a song requested by someone sitting ten feet away.

With a repertoire of more than 1,000 songs, we can adjust the music to the people in front of us instead of forcing every restaurant into the same set list.

That flexibility matters in restaurants because every room is different.

A quiet dining room needs a different approach than a packed lounge. A Friday dinner crowd may want something entirely different from a late-night Saturday crowd. Some nights stay relaxed. Others build naturally into something much more energetic.

No two nights are exactly the same – and that’s exactly why we enjoy restaurant entertainment so much.

Live Music Restaurants in Bergen County

If you’re specifically looking for a live music restaurant in Bergen County, you’re searching in one of the best areas of New Jersey for dinner and entertainment.

Bergen County has an enormous concentration of restaurants spread across towns including New Milford, Hackensack, Paramus, Park Ridge, Ridgewood, Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, Englewood, Fort Lee and the surrounding communities.

We’ve been fortunate to perform throughout the area for years.

Here are a few places that have become part of our story.

Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn – New Milford

Liza & Josh performing live music at Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn in New Milford, NJIf you’re looking for one of the best examples of a live music restaurant in Bergen County, Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn in New Milford belongs near the top of the list.

We know Sanzari’s particularly well.

Liza & Josh have been performing at Sanzari’s for approximately 20 years, making it one of the longest-running restaurant relationships of our career.

Over those two decades, we’ve watched Sanzari’s become a true destination for people who want excellent Italian food, cocktails and live entertainment without sacrificing the experience of a great dinner.

For us, it’s also one of the clearest examples of what makes the best Italian restaurants with live entertainment in NJ so much fun.

This isn’t a nightclub that happens to serve food. Sanzari’s is a beautiful, relaxed fine-dining restaurant where live music becomes part of the evening.

The restaurant features several distinctive spaces, including its Grand Dining Room, Bar Room and upstairs Ballroom for weddings and private events. The Bar Room regularly features entertainment, particularly on weekends, and has developed a loyal following of guests who enjoy combining dinner, drinks and music.

And after performing there for so many years, we’ve learned something important:

Sanzari’s has regulars.

People come back.

We’ve seen many of the same faces year after year. We’ve celebrated birthdays and anniversaries with guests, taken countless requests and watched people who originally discovered us over dinner eventually hire us for their own weddings, corporate functions and private celebrations.

There are also people we first met at Sanzari’s years ago who still come out to hear us perform today.

That kind of relationship is difficult to manufacture.

It’s what happens when a restaurant becomes part of the community.

That’s why Sanzari’s isn’t simply another name on a list of Bergen County restaurants with music for us. It’s part of our history.

If someone asked us to name one of the quintessential Northern NJ restaurants with live music, Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn would absolutely be on that list.

Bottagra – Hawthorne

Live music at Bottagra Restaurant in Hawthorne, NJ with Liza & JoshIf Sanzari’s represents the classic dinner-and-live-music side of North Jersey entertainment, Bottagra in Hawthorne shows you what happens when a restaurant decides to turn the energy way up.

We’ve performed at Bottagra, and we’ve known owners Rob and Carlo for years. They’re some of the best in the business when it comes to understanding something that great restaurant operators know instinctively:

People aren’t always looking for just dinner.  Sometimes they want an experience.

Bottagra has been serving modern Italian cuisine in Hawthorne since 2008, but food is only part of what has made it such a recognizable North Jersey destination.

Take Thursday nights.

Bottagra’s La Vita è Bella Thursday Dinner Party combines dinner with a late-night experience powered by some amazing DJs. As the evening progresses, the energy changes and what began as dinner can become something much closer to a party.

It’s a great example of the difference between simply putting entertainment in a restaurant and actually building an evening around it.

Then there are the Bottagra Brunches.

Calling them brunch doesn’t really describe what happens.

The Bottagra Brunch is a 21+ Sunday event that combines dining with the energy of a daytime party. Over the years, the concept has become well known far beyond Hawthorne, with Bottagra even taking its brunch events to destinations including South Beach, Las Vegas, Long Branch and Atlantic City.

If you’re searching for restaurants with entertainment in NJ, Bottagra illustrates just how broad that category can be.

We’ve always believed the best restaurant entertainment comes from understanding your audience and creating the right atmosphere for that particular room. Rob, Carlo and the entertainment teams at Bottagra understand that as well as anyone.

Their DJs are excellent, the energy can be incredible, and when Bottagra decides to throw a party, they throw a party.

For people looking beyond traditional music venues in North Jersey and wanting a restaurant where dinner can transition into a genuine nightlife experience, Bottagra deserves to be on the radar.

103 Prime – Park Ridge

Liza & Josh performing live music at 103 Prime in Park Ridge, NJ103 Prime in Park Ridge represents another side of the Bergen County restaurant scene.

We’ve performed there, and it’s a good example of how live music can work in a more intimate restaurant environment.

Not every night of live entertainment needs a dance floor, nightclub lighting or a giant stage.

Sometimes the perfect setting is simply a beautiful restaurant, a great meal, cocktails and music happening close enough that the performers can interact with the people in the room.

For someone searching for a nice restaurant with live music entertainment in Bergen County, NJ, that distinction can be important.

Our goal when performing in an environment like 103 Prime isn’t to turn the dining room into a concert venue.

The music should fit the restaurant.

Guests should be able to enjoy their conversations while still feeling connected to the performance. As the night develops, we can raise the energy, take requests and follow wherever the room wants to go.

That’s one of the things that makes Bergen County restaurant music different from seeing a traditional show.

The audience helps shape the evening.

The Brick House – Wyckoff

Live music at The Brick House in Wyckoff, NJ with Liza & JoshThe Brick House in Wyckoff is another Bergen County venue that has been part of our performing history.

Located in a restored 1851 building, The Brick House has long been known as both an upscale restaurant and a destination for weddings, private parties, corporate functions and other celebrations.

It’s a great example of how some restaurants with entertainment in Bergen County, NJ can also serve as important event venues for the surrounding community.

We’ve performed at The Brick House for private events and celebrations, and it’s the kind of setting that works particularly well with live music.

The restaurant also gives us an opportunity to highlight another part of Bergen County.

When people think about music venues in Bergen County, their attention often goes toward the more densely populated areas around Paramus, Hackensack, Fort Lee and Englewood.

But northwestern Bergen County – including Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, Ridgewood, Ramsey, Mahwah and the surrounding communities – has its own excellent restaurant and private-event scene.

That’s an important part of what we want this guide to represent.

We’re not simply compiling restaurant names from an internet search.

We’re sharing restaurants, event spaces and venues we’ve actually gotten to know through years of performing throughout the area.

The Brick House is one of them.

Remembering Stony Hill Inn

Live music at Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack, NJ with Liza & JoshNot every restaurant or venue that has been important to North Jersey’s dining and entertainment scene is still here.

Stony Hill Inn is now permanently closed, but we couldn’t write about the restaurants and venues that shaped our performing career without mentioning it.

We loved performing there.

Over the years, Liza & Josh performed at Stony Hill Inn for weddings, private parties, fundraisers and special events, and we have a lot of great memories from those rooms.

It was the kind of classic North Jersey venue that could host an elegant wedding one evening, a fundraiser another night and a private celebration the next.

When you’ve been performing around Bergen County and Northern New Jersey for as long as we have, places become part of your history.

You remember the staff.

You remember the families who hired you.

You remember certain weddings and parties years after they’re over.

Stony Hill Inn is one of those places for us.

Although you can’t make a reservation there today, it remains part of the history of live music in Bergen County, NJ – and part of ours.

More Restaurants With Live Music Across Northern NJ

Bergen County may be home base for much of what we do, but the live entertainment scene doesn’t stop at the county line.

There are excellent restaurants with live music in Northern NJ throughout Passaic, Essex, Morris, Hudson and neighboring counties.

Bottagra in Hawthorne is a perfect example. It sits just outside Bergen County, yet for many Bergen County residents it’s only minutes away.

That’s why we don’t think a useful restaurant guide should be restricted by county lines.

If a restaurant is ten or fifteen minutes away and offers a great night out, it’s worth knowing about.

We’ve performed at restaurants and private events throughout the region, and we’re continually discovering new places. As our schedule grows, we’ll continue using this website to spotlight selected restaurants in NJ with live music, including establishments where we perform and other places we think are worth visiting.

If you’re searching for music this weekend in Northern NJ, our live performance calendar is the easiest place to see where we’re appearing.

Live Music Near Bergen County and Rockland County, NY

The North Jersey entertainment scene doesn’t really end at the New York state line.

For people living in northern Bergen County, Rockland County is often just a short drive away. Likewise, guests from Pearl River, Nanuet, Nyack, Suffern and surrounding areas regularly travel into Bergen County for dinner and entertainment.

And if you continue north, the Hudson Valley opens up even more possibilities for great restaurants, live music and a night out. From Rockland County into Orange and Westchester counties and the communities along the Hudson River, there are plenty of destinations within an easy drive of North Jersey.

That creates a natural North Jersey–Rockland County–Hudson Valley corridor for dining and live entertainment, and it’s an area where we’ve performed for years.

As we expand this guide, we’ll include selected restaurants and venues on both sides of the state line, particularly places offering the kind of dinner-and-music experience our audience enjoys.

So whether you’re searching for live music in Bergen County tonight, restaurants with entertainment in Northern New Jersey, or somewhere to hear live music in Rockland County or the Hudson Valley, check this page and our calendar regularly. New dates and venues are always being added.

Dinner and Entertainment in NJ Doesn’t Have to Mean a Nightclub

One reason people search for dinner and entertainment in NJ is that they want more than simply going out to eat—but they don’t necessarily want to spend the night in a nightclub.

That’s where restaurant-based live music fills an important niche.

You can have a great meal, order drinks, hear songs you recognize, and still enjoy the people you’re with.

Of course, there are also bars in Bergen County, NJ with live music and restaurants that intentionally create a much louder, later-night experience.

Bottagra’s Thursday nights demonstrate how much fun that version can be.

Neither approach is inherently better.

They’re simply different nights out.

Sometimes you want Sinatra with dinner.

Sometimes you want a DJ and a room full of people ready to party.

North Jersey has both.

What Makes Live Music Work in a Restaurant?

One of the things we’ve learned from performing in restaurants for so many years is that the best venues don’t treat music as an afterthought.

The restaurant, staff, and performers are all contributing to the same guest experience.

Volume matters. Song selection matters. Timing matters.

Even the physical size of the setup matters.

A duo that understands restaurants can adjust while servers are taking orders, recognize when a table is celebrating something special, take requests, and gradually build the energy of the room as the evening progresses.

That’s one reason we describe ourselves as hospitality partners rather than simply performers.

We also deliberately use a compact professional sound system and footprint that allows us to deliver great sound without taking over valuable restaurant space.

From Restaurant Entertainment to Weddings and Private Events

Restaurants are also where many people first discover us.

Someone hears us during dinner, requests a song, asks for a card – and six months later we’re performing at an anniversary party, wedding cocktail hour, corporate event or backyard celebration.

We love that.

A North Jersey Live Music Residency

Our musical home for the past 20 years has been Sanzari's New Bridge Inn in New Milford, New Jersey, where Liza & Josh have maintained a long-running residency.

Twenty years at one restaurant teaches you a lot about live entertainment and hospitality.

You learn how to read a dining room. You learn when the music should take center stage and when it should sit comfortably underneath the conversation.

You learn how to entertain regulars who have heard you dozens of times while still making someone’s first night feel special. At Sanzari’s, we learned so much about how live music enhances the restaurant business.

Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn in New Milford, NJ, home to the best live music in North Jersey

Most importantly, you learn that great restaurant entertainment isn’t about making the performers the center of attention.

It’s about making the entire evening better.

Beyond Sanzari’s, we’ve performed at restaurants and venues throughout Bergen County and North Jersey, including The Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack, 103 Prime in Park Ridge, Biagio’s in Paramus, Bottagra in Hawthorne and Ciao Bella Cucina, along with many other restaurants, clubs and private event spaces.
